Its A Boy!

By the time you are able to read this, you will think it is common knowledge. You've always been a boy, of course, but there was a moment when Daddy and I found out.

We looked up to a huge TV screen and saw this picture. When we saw this image Daddy and I said the same thing, "Benjamin!"

We named you Benjamin Jedidiah Weltman for a reason, son. "Benjamin" translated from the Hebrew means "son of my right hand." This doesn't just mean you are our favorite, but it means more that we trust you with all that we have. You are our son, who we rely on and trust. "Jedidiah" means "loved by the Lord." You are our trusted son, loved by the Lord.

In Hebrew tradition, people were named and renamed to who they are and who they will become. Sometimes God would change a persons name to signify that they are a changed person. Others kept their name and lived it out, a persons name was the prophesy of who they would be. Your name is important, it tells the story of who you are, where you came from and where you are going.

In America today, the importance of a person's name is not really respected. Rather what ever sounds pretty or fun or different is usually picked. To be honest, this can be really appealing when parents are picking out a name for their child. But Dad and I wanted to be intentional with you. So if you are in the 4th grade and there are 12 other Benjamins in your class... know that we named you for a reason.

In praying for you lately, my prayers have been that you fully grow into the name chosen for you. That you would not simply be trusted, but that you be trustworthy. That you would be a leader among leaders, respectable, gracious and just. That you would be a man loved by God, and reciprocate that love. That you would find reverence and awe for God, that you would appreciate the sacrifice of Christ and find honor in defending the faith. I pray that you would be a person of character that is obedient to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. I pray that you grow into your name.

You are, Benjamin Jedidiah.

I love you, sweet boy.
